When to Visit
Open to day visitors during weekends and public holidays from 08h00 to 17h00 during October to May, our southern hemisphere summer and 09h00 to 14h30, June-September, during our southern hemisphere winter. Late summer and early winter is a good time for hiking in Barberton. At only 680msl and high humidity during peak summer (November-January) best is late February to May. During winter you need to start your hike before 12h00 because dusk approaches quickly at 17h00. Protea Caffra flowers after the first veld fires in May and Scadoxis multiflora during October. A signature of the Lowveld, Pride of Dekaap (Bauhinia galpinii) starts flowering in November. For day visitors an entrance fee and prior reservation is applicable.
